Austin, grade 12

“It sounds cheesy, but joining BAND was probably the best decision I’ve ever made throughout my whole high school career. Band and the people in it can seriously change your life for the better. Band competitions and football game performances are the most fun and greatest memories I have from high school.”

Eeshal, grade 10

"Theatre has taught me many things. It taught me the importance of teamwork and communication. Theatre made me a better listener, helper and inspired me to think outside the box, unlocking my creative side. Theatre has made an impact in my life and taught me the most important thing of all, being yourself and embracing it! "

Hannah, grade 12

“I joined COLOR GUARD because one of my friends encouraged me by showing me her field season performance. I found it so beautiful I had to join and do it myself. I love color guard because of all the amazing people on the team and how we all work together. We’ve shared some great memories and laughs which brought the whole color guard experience together for me.”

What do students have to say about being in Band?

“I’m in band because it gives me a place to feel safe and be myself! I really love playing music, and it’s always fun to get caught in the energy of a show or a stand tune!”

-Huntyr, 11th grade

“My favorite thing about band is playing together. The rush and excitement from playing songs with your friends is awesome. The way the sound travels and fills the air around you is easily one of my favorite parts of band.”

“Our theatre program made me feel welcome when I was a freshman and I met most of my friends there, it showed me what I want to do after high school.”

-Christine, 11th grade

"Our shows are a joy to watch, and even more fun to be involved with. I've loved every moment of every show I've worked on, and the community provided by it feels like a family. It's like I have a home away from home, and I've met so many people and learned so many things from theatre."

How to letter in Orchestra

“During my time at West Hills I was a part of the guitar class for all 4 years. The class gave me a wonderful sense of community with students from all different groups within West Hills. The guitar class created memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. From the friends I met in the class, the cruise we raised money and performed on, to the concerts we played for our school and loved ones. The guitar class was one of the highlights of my high school career.”

-Anthony, Alumni Software Integration Engineer at Apple.

“Taking the performing arts classes at West Hills has tremendously altered my life for the better. I obtained leadership skills, great work ethic, discipline and a deep love for music, so much so that I am currently a music teacher at Francis Parker School. What undoubtedly made the classes remarkably amazing, are the teachers. They not only had great knowledge in the field of music but faithfulness to each student and their success, both in class and outside of school. I am proud to have taken the Band, Guitar, and Orchestra classes, as they were a huge part of my life throughout high school, and I highly recommend everyone to take at least one year of a performing arts class.”
