Sports Medicine

Learn hands on about the world of Sports Medicine.

Makynzie, class of 2019

I am currently a second year college student, majoring in Nursing at Arizona State University. Throughout high school, I participated in taking the CTE Sports Medicine program as well as serving multiple leadership roles in the Sports Medicine club. These courses gave me opportunities to learn skills and concepts hands on, as well as gaining access to many volunteering opportunities in the healthcare field. The things I learned in this class are those not covered in a normal classroom setting. From concussion protocol, to sports related injuries, I got to discover many different careers and aspects related to health care, which ultimately led me to the decision of becoming a nursing major. This course is not taught out of a textbook, instead using the most current and updated information in regards to all things healthcare, and I would recommend anybody at all interested in this field of work to participate in this class.

Rylee, 10th grade

“I enjoy sports medicine because I feel like I am learning material that I can use to potentially save someone’s life.”

Farrell, Class of 2018

"While I was in high-school I never considered myself a good student. I struggled a lot and had no clue what I wanted to do after I graduated. I joined sports medicine and fell in love with the medical field. I didn't have the grades to get into a university so I found out about first responder and an EMT program. I've been working as an EMT since January of 2020 and I love every moment of it but I couldn't have done it without Sports Medicine. Mr Riego showed me a different side of learning and inspired me to be where I'm at today. Now I'm still in school working at becoming a paramedic. Thanks Mr Riego! I owe most of my success to your program."
